Where Does Our Strength and Hope Come From?

2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

1 Thessalonians 2: 8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us

1 Thessalonians 4: 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

Promises for us to cling too:

God is near the brokenhearted

Psalm 34: 18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

God heals our hearts

Psalm 147: 3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Joy will come

Psalm 30: 5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

God is with us

Psalm 23: 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

God gives us a new song

Psalm 40: 1-3 I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

What we should do?

Be honest about your emotions

1 Peter 5: 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you

Don’t fall into griefs traps

Open yourself up to God’s helpers

Be thankful

Don’t neglect your spiritual habits

Celebrate eternity
